If you use a golf GPS unit, are you taking an unfair advantage over your fellow golfers? That’s the question that was put to me the other day, during a round of golf at my local golf club.
It was an interesting question, as there is no doubt that using a golf GPS unit, provides great assistance to improve your golf score. Knowing the exact distance to the front and back of a green, not to mention the benefits of knowing how far you need to carry the ball to clear a hazard or lay up short of a hazard, could save you a number of shots in your round.
Also, knowing the exact distance that you can hit the ball with every club in your golf bag can help you find the green, rather than having to rely on a chip and putt or a sand save. Of course we still have to hit the ball solid and align our self to the target, which is part of the fun and challenge that all amateur golfers enjoy, regardless of our varying abilities.
So, if you use a golf GPS unit, there is no doubt in my mind that you have an advantage over your fellow golfers, but is it unfair? it is not any different to the improvements we have seen over the years in golf equipment, where technology has enabled us to improve our golf sores by hitting the ball further than we ever thought possible. Now with the use of a golf GPS unit, which has been approved for use and is totally legal, you can take advantage of this technology, if you are keen on improving your golf and shooting lower scores.
